VIRB XE was engineered for easy operation with a 1-touch record switch on the top of the camera and a dedicated shutter button for still photos in the same place. The solid click of the switch makes it easy to know that you are recording, even if you’re wearing gloves. And VIRB XE begins recording the moment you flip the switch, even if the camera is off. And it’s bundled with accessories that make it ready to take flying, right out of the box.
Professional Hi-res Features
The VIRB XE records high-contrast, undistorted high-definition video at up to 1440p30 resolution, and it allows you to easily adjust resolution and frame rate right from the viewfinder. It even captures crisp, dramatic slow-motion video, while offering a variety of professional-level image-quality controls and VIRB XE is a high-powered digital photo camera, too; shoot 12 megapixel images at speeds up to 30 frames per second – and capture photos even while recording video. VIRB XE can also be set to automatically capture photos over long periods of time at intervals of up to 120 seconds apart.
Capture more than just video of the moment with Garmin G-Metrix™. VIRB XE contains built-in Garmin GPS, G-force, orientation sensors and the ability to wirelessly connect to external sensors and Garmin devices to capture even more performance data. Since it’s Connext® capable, it can receive superior aviation-specific data from your G3X Touch flight display and Flight Stream 110/210. A lithium-ion battery provides up to 2 hours of recording at 1080p, and with multiple charging options (sold separately) you’ll have plenty of juice. Extend your filming time by carrying an extra battery (sold separately) in your flight bag.
VIRB XE offers wireless connectively, so you can control it right from your wrist using D2™ series of pilot watches or G3X Touch flight display. Quickly turn the camera on and off, record video and snap still pictures. Wi-Fi® connectivity also means you can control the camera from your tablet or smartphone — especially useful if you’re already flying using the Garmin Pilot app (free trial included). Want to capture the action from multiple angles? VIRB cameras can talk to each other, so mount up to 10 cameras around your cockpit and control them all at once — and synchronize video automatically using GPS timestamping.
Straight and Level
VIRB XE contains gyro-based motion sensors to detect camera movements and to help keep your shot steady, and electronic image stabilization reduces camera shake and blur on bumpy flights. The VIRB XE Aviation Bundle also includes a prop filter that helps remove the prop blur from your videos, and it features a headset audio cable so you can capture intercom and ATC radio while flying. Plus, it’s Bluetooth-equipped, so it can connect directly to compatible hands-free headsets so you can narrate your videos, and with the GMA 350c series of audio panels, capture intercom and ATC radio wirelessly and in high definition — without the need for the headset audio.
Sweet Editing Suite
Connect 1 or more VIRB XE cameras to the Garmin VIRB Mobile App on your compatible smartphone or tablet, then line up your shot with live video preview, control and view multiple cameras, playback and edit recorded footage, overlay G-Metrix data — with aviation-specific skins that allow you to inset speed, altitude, location, G-forces and more — and post and share your videos online, without the hassle of a computer. Plus, our free VIRB Edit™ software gives you the ability to edit footage, add music, switch between camera angles and adjust G-Metrix gauges, and it will also automatically keep your camera’s software up-to-date.
The VIRB XE Aviation Bundle comes with a robust suction cup mount, but a variety of additional versatile Garmin mounts let you firmly lock the camera in position, virtually anywhere. VIRB mounts feature professional, non-slip, Allen-head tightening, allowing maximum torque for vibration/impact resistance.
WHEN MOUNTING: It is the pilot's responsibility to mount the camera in a manner that ensures the camera will stay affixed to the aircraft. Adhesive and suction cup mounts may not be appropriate for mounting depending on the aircraft's exterior finish, the stability of the mounting surface, and the speed at which the aircraft will be operated. A rigid surface with a finish that is clean, smooth, and glossy is typically best for secure mounting.
