A. To make the Edge 305 use the speed sensor instead of the GPS for speed tracking, click on "Settings", then "General" and "System". Next turn the GPS to off. This will tell the unit to calculate speed using the speed/cadence sensor. (Note: This will also disable the GPS for tracking your location.)
A. Each device is intended to aid the user in their training experience. The use of one above another comes down to personal preference. Basically, the difference resides in the method by which each device calculates distance. A bike computer is typically calibrated to record the total distance traveled by recording how many times the wheels have turned and then multiplying that by the circumference of the wheel. On the other hand, a GPS device will update its position at certain intervals and measure the total distance between the points marked each time it records a new location.
